An interesting story on Tony Spilotro is on Gangland Wire: On June 9, 1980, the night Frank Bluestein, aka “Frankie Blue”, was murdered, Frank Cullotta had warned him that the Las Vegas police department was following him.

"Frankie Blue" knew someone was on his ass, but he was certain it was criminals -- a group with bad intentions, looking to rob him.

And that didn't give him a moment's pause. It was actually an occupational hazard. Garbage men may tweak their back while hefting trash cans, mobsters might get shot or robbed or both.

"These fcking cops are nuts, if they think you got a gun, they’ll shoot ya,” Cullotta warned him, as noted in Frank Culotta, Hole in the Wall Gang, authored by Denny Griffin in collaboration with the former Las Vegas Mob enforcer. The book makes for excellent background and context for the "Frankie Blue" hit, which was depicted in Scorcese’s Casino, only in the film Frankie had a tinfoil-wrapped hero sandwich in his hand, not a gun.
The Las Vegas Metro Intelligence detectives were conducting an ongoing aggressive surveillance of Tony Spilotro and the rest of the Hole in the Wall Gang.

The night Frankie Blue was killed, Frank said he and Tony Spilotro were sitting in front of his restaurant,The Upper Crust. Frank noticed two detectives watching them when Frankie Blue drove away.

Cullotta reports that Spilotro received a phone call shortly after and he learned that Metro Intelligence detectives had killed Frankie Blue.

Tony said, “We gotta do something with these fucking coppers!” Tony continued, “I gotta figure out a way we can get them corked without it coming back to us.”

At the coroner’s inquest, Metro detectives presented evidence that a gun was found at the scene and it was linked back to a purchase in Chicago by Ron Bluestein, Frankie Blue’s brother. The shooting was ruled justified...READ REST
