Cosa Nostra News: The Cicale Files, Volume 1: Inside the Last Great Mafia Empire was no. 13 on the list, the last time I checked.
We already have three reviews -- which reminds me - please, please, please -- if you read the book and like it the greatest way to help us would be to write an honest review.

A solid title. I thoroughly enjoyed this title.
The best parts were Mr. Cicale talking about his days in the early 2000s with the Bonanno family, which, at the time, had no rats.
Must have been a crazy life. Had no idea the extent of it.
I am looking forward to the next installment and learning more of his inner circle.
Seemed like a real bunch of cinderblock cowboys.

Great book, could not put it down and I wanted more. You and Dom did a great job and I hope there's more to come

ReplyDeleteFirst episode of season 4 Alicia was saying " you shouledn't be friends with karen, going around bragging about who her father is." She said that to big ang and renee. I was paraphrasing there by the way. I would agree after the first 2 seasons yes. but when renee found out junior flipped, it must have changed her views somewhat of the life she was born into. Its all fine and dandy when the husbands are out there earning and living a luxurious lifestyle until the authorities come, take the men away, and seize the assets. So in the end they are left financially ruined and they become single moms.

ReplyDeleteI like liked it a lot but I want to know the names of those 2 soldiers from Montreal! I can't understand why there names aren't in there. Some good stuff that fills in the gap from when Vitale flipped until now. I hope volume 2 has an entire chapter devoted to his induction ceremony. I'd love to know who, how, when and where.

ReplyDeleteI agree with you on many points; that's why I said there are "remnants" of the former organization that are still operating. Specifically, in gambling. I know about the gambling bust last September that included many sons (and relatives) of guys who were part of the former crime family here. You are correct, Sonny is still considered to be a major figure in gambling, but not rackateering. There are many others as well, including "Junior" Williams, who are still very big into gambing and numbers. To my knowledge, he and his brother took over Tony Grosso's former gambling operation after he was sent to prison. Grosso had one of the largest numbers operations in the whole country, and he operated independently of the LCN here in Pittsburgh. The lone point where I disagree with you is where you say there are crews of 5-10 organized guys that make up a "hierarchy" of a new family here. It's just not happening, whether you consider it the LaRocca family, the old mob, or the new mob. There is definitely gambling and other bread and butter LCN rackets happening in Pittsburgh, but for the most part, it is not in an organized fashion. They are running around together or answering to anybody; there may be a slight possibility that some of the guys may kick up to Sonny out of respect. The kids involved in the gambling bust (including Rodney Iannelli) may be longing to re-live the glory of the former family here in Pittsburgh, but it's just a pipe dream. There is no "new" family as well, the FBI buried organized crime in the city after the Chucky Porter trial. Chucky was a major reason for the downfall of the family, since Genovese was so blinded by the drug profits that he made a major mistake by bringing Chucky into his inner circle and making a man who was not even full Italian as his underboss. Had JoJo Pecora not gone to prison while Mr. LaRocca was gravely ill, he would have been next in line to become the boss, not Genovese (they both sat on a ruling panel, along with Mannarino). Had that happened, Porter would have never been underboss (or made, possibly) and we might not even be having this debate. Pittsburgh may have continued on in much of the same way that Philly does today.
