Canadian Mob Murder Probe into 2013 Hit Heats Up

Image
UPDATED Canadian law enforcement probing two murders in Southern Ontario linked to the country's Ndrangheta are on a roll, announcing several breaking developments this month. The man in black shot a 28-year-old woman. The same man killed Musitano months later. The investigation centers on the murders of Hamilton organized crime figure Angelo Musitano  last spring and a 28-year-old woman in Woodbridge shot to death months prior. A man she was meeting was likely the true target. At a news conference earlier this month, local law enforcement officials revealed for the first time that the two murders, of Mila Barberi in March 2017 and Musitano in May 2017, were linked. This was based on several main factors: from studying surveillance of the lead suspect in each shooting, police determined he is the same person. Also, a black Honda Civic Coupe was connected to both homicides, police said. Mila Barberi was slain by mistake. Police also recently revealed tha...

Young Tech-Savy Turks Take On Ndrangheta in South Ontario

Image
REVISED, EXPANDED Around a dozen unsolved incidents of violence have occurred so far this year in Southern Ontario, a volley of gunfire, restaurant bombings, and outright murder. It's presumed by law enforcement in Canada that this is an ongoing mob war to fill a leadership vacuum created by the death of  "the Canadian John Gotti," as Gang Land News dubbed him. Vito Rizzuto was waging a war of annihilation against foes internal and external  once he returned home after serving a stint in an American prison for participating in a notorious triple homicide of Bonanno capos in 1981. Vito Rizzuto died allegedly of natural causes in December 2013. His death from cancer is the only thing that stopped him from killing more mobsters who either were against him or had shown disloyalty to him. Rizzuto's father and eldest son were slain by Ndrangheta members while he was in prison after Joseph Massino, the Bonanno crime family boss, flipped and gave testimony abou...

Musitano Ndrangheta Clan's Power Play for Hamilton

Image
Ken Murdock once played a pivotal role in mob politics in Hamilton, a tough town on Ontario's Great Lakes waterfront. Mob hit man Ken Murdock, who was paroled two years ago. He was sentenced to "life" for killing mob boss Johnny "Pops" Papalia and was a suspect in the killings of two close Papalia associates on the orders of his longtime employers, the Musitano crime family , one of three key crime families in the Hamilton region. The other two were the Luppinos and Papalias .

Does Musitano Hit Have Decades-Old Links to Rizzuto Alliance?

Image
Who killed Angelo Musitano yesterday, shooting him numerous times as he sat in his pickup truck in the driveway of his home? The answer might have something to do with someone shot to death 20 years ago this very month, specifically, a mob boss named Johnny Pops. The Musitanos allied with Vito Rizzuto. Angelo paid the ultimate price. That could mean the shooter worked for the same group responsible for gunning down the remnants of the Sicilian Mafia clan formerly run by Vito Rizzuto.

Canadian Hit Man Ken Murdock Paroled

The Musitano brothers who once employed Murdock and were Rizzuto allies. Canadian hit man Kenneth Murdock is out on parole, the National Post's Adrian Humphreys has reported. Murdock played a pivotal role in mob politics in the Hamilton area of Toronto, where he was sentenced to "life" for killing mob boss  Johnny "Pops" Papalia and two of his close associates on the orders of his long time employers,  the Musitano crime family , one of three key crime families in the Hamilton region. The other two were the Luppinos and Papalias . According to Murdock himself, shortly after the hit on Johnny Papalia in 1996, the Musitanos had considered taking out the three brothers who together ran the Luppino family, presumably in a move to dominate Hamilton, a key city in the Ontario province in terms of historical organized crime. At the time, the Musitanos were backed by Vito Rizzuto, who also would eventually make a move from Montreal to take over Southern Onta...

Canadian Mafia Primer: Ndrangheta v Cosa Nostra

Image
Joe Bonanno inducted a Canadian member of the Ndrangheta into his family. I seek to present here factual information that supports my writing with regard to the Mafia in Canada. I also seek to address  comments challenging me factually on my reporting of the dynamics of Mafia power at work in the Canadian provinces. Key takeaway: Just because the Sicilian Cosa Nostra borgatas of Joseph Bonanno (one of New York's Five Families) and the more isolated Buffalo, NY-based chieftain Stefano Magaddino inducted Canadians, it does not preclude them from belonging to the  Calabrian Ndrangheta  as opposed to the Sicilian Cosa Nostra . Information provided here is authoritative, as will be shown, which means if you are going to challenge me on Canada anymore, you better be able to address this first; otherwise, comments will no longer be posted. That the city of Hamilton is the key to Ontario can be inferred.

Natural Death Recalls Tumultuous Times in Ontario Underworld

Frank Papalia—brother of violent former mob boss John "Johnny Pops" Papalia, aka The Enforcer—died on April 15 at age 83. Known for being among the last remaining figures of an infamous one-time Mafia dynasty based in Ontario, Canada, Frank Papalia suffered from Alzheimer’s disease in a Hamilton-based nursing home when he died. [There were four Papalia brothers, the other two were Rocco and Dominic.] John "Johnny Pops" Papalia Fate was less kind to brother Johnny, who'd been a well-known bootlegger and later, as a drug trafficker with links to both the French and Pizza Connections (which, actually, were the same operation, a longtime, ongoing one that involved the Sicilian Cosa Nostra as well as Corsican crime families .) Johnny may have also been suffering from the onset of Alzheimer’s disease when in May of 1997 he was shot in the back of his head in the downtown Hamilton parking lot of a vending machine company he then owned.
