Anthony Comello's Court Filing Offers Baseless Conspiracy Theories, President Trump, And....

More deep state background
In March, Anthony Comello, an aimless 24-year-old man who still lived with his parents on Staten Island, was arrested three days after the brutal murder of Gambino underboss Francesco (Franky Boy) Cali in his Todt Hill driveway in front of his family.

Anthony Comello charged with murder.

The Staten Island District Attorney’s Office had charged Comello with the murder.

That's roughly about where our personal interest in this story died and was buried.

From the moment of the shooting, sources alleged a weird connection to President Donald Trump (and Vice President Mike Pence) but also something about Comello falling in love with Cali’s niece, and being rejected by Frank.

Now his lawyer’s court filing claims Comello, who remains in protective custody, only wanted to arrest Frank Cali, not kill him by shooting him 10 times. They attribute this to his being deluded by internet conspiracy theories. And there’s no mention of the alleged relationship with the niece.

“He ardently believed that Francesco Cali, a boss in the Gambino crime family, was a prominent member of the deep state, and, accordingly, an appropriate target for a citizen’s arrest,” Comello’s lawyer, Robert C. Gottlieb, wrote.

Comello also believed President Trump has personally chosen him as his personal vigilante.

We knew we would hear this crap immediately after Comello’s first March court appearance, when he held up his hands to showcase the QAnon symbols and phrases doodled in pen on his palms.

We've always been fascinated by conspiracy theories and their sway. The term "deep state" describes a conspiracy theory about collusion and cronyism within the US political system; the deep state constitutes a hidden government within the legitimately elected government. Government officials, bureaucrats, etc., allegedly run everything. We never heard anything about a Mafioso being involved.

President Trump and supporters and allies have sought to blame a deep state for many of their inconveniences, like the Mueller probe. The actual timeline of events in 2016 suggests that, if anything, the FBI’s actions were a very strong net positive for Trump’s campaign. Then-FBI director James Comey probably did more to sway that election to Trump than any other living, breathing American.

The FBI launched a counterintelligence investigation into the Trump campaign’s contacts with Russian agents in July 2016, after Australia’s top diplomat in Britain informed his American counterparts about a conversation he had two months earlier with George Papadopoulos, a foreign policy adviser to the Trump campaign. These are facts....

When Comello showed up at Cali’s Todt Hill house in his pickup truck on March 13, he allegedly had handcuffs with him. His plan was thwarted when Cali apparently refused to submit to his citizen’s arrest, the lawyer alleged. The Gambino leader instead reached for his waistband. Comello, fearing Cali was going to pull a gun and kill him, had no choice but to shoot Cali instead (10 times) and flee.

Cali’s murder was among the most high profile mob killings since at least the 1979 Carmine Galante Joe & Mary Bronx special, and the shooting this year sparked widescale speculation that a war among New York’s Five Families was in progress. But that’s not the case, as per Comello’s lawyer.

Gottlieb, who says Comello is not guilty by reason of mental defect, wants the court to place him in psychiatric treatment, and not prosecute him for murder.

QAnon, a conspiracy theory that originated on internet message boards, played a key role in Comello’s descent into mental instability, his lawyer said. (QAnon is baseless, totally unsupported by facts and what we call empirical reality).

Before killing Cali, Comello allegedly attempted to make citizen’s arrests of those he believed were linked to the deep state.

In February, Comello twice tried to arrest Mayor Bill de Blasio.

Comello also reputedly sought the help of United States marshals at Federal District Court in Manhattan to arrest California Democrats Representatives Maxine Waters and Adam Schiff, who he believed were nearby.

The marshals declined to help.

Both incidents were confirmed by law enforcement officials, as per reports.

Comello also had posted and shared conspiracy theories online.

One of Comello’s Instagram accounts, RealAmericasVoice, was identified in the filing.

Questions such as how did Comello link a Mafia boss to baseless political conspiracy theories and whether he shot Cali simply in anger because he wanted to date his niece are not touched on at all in the filing.
