Spend A "Night With The Sopranos" On Long Island

By Nick Christophers
“Every time I think I'm out, they pull me back in,” Al Pacino's exclamation from The Godfather Part III, could also ring true for lifelong fans of The Sopranos, the popular HBO series that concluded with that infamous fade to black in 2007. Fans now have the chance to get up close and personal with some of the actors they have admired for years.

Night with the Sopranos will be held on January 28

Night with the Sopranos will be held on January 28 at 8:00 p.m. at the Roslyn Cellar at 1221 Old Northern Blvd. in Roslyn on Long Island. The event will feature Sopranos cast members Federico Castelluccio (Furio Giunta), Vincent Curatola (Johnny Sack Sacrimoni ) and Rob Funaro (Eugen Pontecorvo), who will participate in a Q&A with the audience.

The event, to be hosted by comedian Freddie Rubino, will feature "inside stories, laughs and surprises," according to the show organizer's website. (Tickets are $125 each.)

The event is the “brainchild” of comedian Fred Rubino who first approached actor Funaro (who played Eugene Pontecorvo) with the idea of setting up the meet and greet. Rob thought it was a great idea and it mushroomed into involving Castellucio (who played Furio Giunta) and Curatola (who played Johnny Sacks).

Fred will do a set of stand-up comedy that will be followed by a Q&A with the actors on stage. Then he will go into the audience and allow them to ask questions themselves. It is a unique concept in a more comfortable private setting.

“We are looking to bring this experience to other venues in the northeast and hopefully [we will be] announcing another show soon,” added Fred.

The producers of the event are Frank Macri and Jimmy Coniglione. Frank has been producing high end comedy shows and fundraisers for about five years now, and with Jimmy, considered Night with the Sopranos a winner. What a better way to bring fans together with the actors in a semi-formal atmosphere?

Federico said that this will be the first time he appears at a show event with Curatola and Funaro.

As for his current projects, Federico said, “My most recent film titles that I've acted in, are, "The Mick and the Trick” with Peter Green, “Don Q," with Armand Assante. "Cabrini," a film on the life of Mother Cabrini, with Giancarlo Giannini, John Lithgow and David Morse, then a short film called "The Stakeout," which I directed and acted in and is now on the festival circuit. I'm co-writing and directing a project called "Three's Company Two," and I'm slated to direct three other independent films starting in late summer of 2023.”

Johnny Sacks, a longtime rock in Tony Soprano’s shoe, said he is excited about the addition of the comedy segment as well as the chance to once again connect with the fans.

Vincent is busy these days with a recurring role as a judge on Law & Order and also runs his Vincent Curatola Acting Workshop (email him at vincentcuratolaactingworkshop@gmail.com).

Turncoat Sopranos soldier Eugene Pontecorvo did not last as long as Rob Funaro would have liked (the character offed himself after his bosses, Tony Soprano and the FBI, refused to let him retire with his family to the Sunshine State). Still, Funaro earned many fans because of the character. He is currently working on his own project titled “Handsome Jimmy,” written by Tom Kelly. His favorite place to show off his skills as an actor is the theater. He has two plays in the works. One, to include fellow Sopranos alumnus Vincent Pastore, is titled “Marlon Brando Sat Here," in which he will play a character known as Biggie. Another play in the works is titled “View from a Bridge."
