Peter Gotti's Compassionate Release Motion Leaves Gambino Family Few Options

Image
John Gotti most certainly never would've done what his eldest brother is attempting to do. Peter Gotti with Ronnie One-Arm Trucchio. And it's certainly not something in brother Gene 's vocabulary. Gene, now a capo in the Gambino crime family, served 30 years in prison, and notably refused to seek early release to a halfway house when he had the opportunity. He was released last year, after serving out his full sentence. Peter Gotti seems to be following in the footsteps of another John Gotti, the one with Junior for a nickname. Former lead decision- maker on a Gambino family ruling panel (and a nephew to Peter), Junior Gotti publicly disavowed the Gambino family back in 2005. Four times between then and 2009, federal prosecutors tried--and failed--to convict him on racketeering charges Even though the filing says nothing about his current status in the Gambino family, by filing the compassionate release motion, Peter Gotti also is tacitly stepping down...

The Mysterious Plane Crash That Set In Motion John Gotti's Path To Power

Image
John Gotti "blasted his way into the mob -- he came the tough guy way in," as former Gambino capo Michael (Mikie Scars) DiLeonardo once told  us. John Gotti orchestrated the December 1985 murder of Paul Castellano. When and why did he make the determination to embark on that path? The primary reason of course was the  threat posed by Gambino boss Paul Castellano after Angelo Ruggiero, Gene Gotti, and John Carneglia, among others, were indicted for drug trafficking. But the timeline runs even farther back. In fact, the development that set John Gotti on his path to power also led to Gene Gotti and John Carneglia going to prison for 29 years. It was a mysterious plane crash off the Georgia coast. That triggered a series of events that culminated with Gotti's reign as boss of the Gambino crime family. May 6, 1982, was a clear and sunny day, with little turbulence. At about 10 am that morning, a Learjet departed New Jersey’s Teterboro airport for Florida’...

Newspapers Suffer From Gene Gotti Derangement Syndrome

Image
After decades behind bars, longtime Gambino wiseguy Gene Gotti was recently spotted in Valley Stream outside his home... Better run to the hills! Hardcore veteran wiseguy Gene Gotti post-release at his home on Long Island . The mob is worried about how his release will impact their rackets! Saints preserve us! Call the police! Maybe some priests? (Though they may be too busy with other things these days.)  While we didn't actually see such exclamations -- well, we did spot one of them, actually -- based on some of the more hysterical newspaper reports we've eyeballed, we certainly would not have been surprised if we had. No, Gene Gotti isn't going to come and eat you. The brother of late Gambino boss John Gotti was released from prison last week, and we don't know why newspapers continue to flog this. Is it really so surprising that the man has been seen?  Gene Gotti does exist. He's not, like, fictitious. He has a real family, too, and some sou...

Gene Gotti Is "Pure Cosa Nostra,” Says Mikie Scars

Image
We've been writing about the pending release of Gene Gotti, brother of the late Gambino boss , from FCI Pollock in Louisiana on September 15, and last night we spoke with former Gambino capo Michael (Mikie Scars) DiLeonardo about him. John Carneglia and Gene -- you can't speak about one without  the other. Gene, 71, went away for heroin trafficking in 1989 with John Carneglia, 73. Carneglia was released earlier this year, on June 11 . The big questions is, what will the two loyal Gambino mobsters do when they are finally home after spending their peak years, and then some, behind bars? Some say Gene is done with the mob and that  we won't hear from him again. He will disappear into mainstream life. While Gene undoubtedly will keep a low profile -- he will be on parole, probably for the rest of his life; so will John Carneglia -- some believe Gene also will want to reclaim everything that is his. However, he would need to use an emissary to speak for hi...

After Nearly 30 Years, Gene Gotti Gets Out Of Prison Later This Month

Image
Gene Gotti, brother of the late Gambino boss , is slated to be released from FCI Pollock in Louisiana on September 15, as per the BOP. Gene and John Gotti. Gene, 71, who ranks among the New York Mafia's remaining legitimate tough guys, went away for heroin trafficking in 1989 with John Carneglia, 73, who was released earlier this year, on June 11, from a Brooklyn halfway house . Gene and Johnny Carneglia were both identified by Salvatore (Sammy the Bull) Gravano as being among the shooters responsible for gunning down Paul Castellano and Thomas Bilotti in front of Sparks Steakhouse in December 1985. (Carneglia is believed to have fired the coup de grâce in Castellano's head.) Prior to his conviction, Gene lived with his wife and three children on Gibson Boulevard in Valley Stream, L.I. Carneglia and Gotti were both convicted in the third trial of a 1983 indictment of 10 Gambino mobsters and associates based on tape recordings from an FBI bug placed in the...

Gotti Confidant John Carneglia Officially a Free Man Tomorrow

Image
John Carneglia, who on December 16, 1985, allegedly fired the fatal shots that ended Paul Castellano's reign and paved the way for John Gotti's rise to the top of the Gambino crime family, will be released from a Residential Reentry management Field Office at 100 20th Street tomorrow. John Carneglia back in his heyday. That's according to the BOP locator site.  He'd served 28 years in federal prison for heroin trafficking. And despite his role in the hit in front of Sparks Steakhouse, Carneglia was never charged in the midtown Manhattan assassination, despite the fact that Gambino turncoat (and former underboss) Salvatore (Sammy Bull) Gravano fingered Carnigs in 1991 for shooting Big Paul. Sammy also fingered Gotti's brother, Gene, who also is due to depart prison, on September 5 of this year. Carneglia and Gene Gotti were found guilty of drug dealing in 1989. Prosecutors opted not to indict either of them for Castellano's murder, after both we...

Onetime "Shooter and Gentleman" Gene Gotti Embittered by Prison

Image
"In this life, there’s a lotta hypocrisy that you just learn to live with—like there’s a rule against dealing drugs, and Gene Gotti [another Gotti brother], is doin’ a long bit for that; you’re not supposed to go with other goodfellas’ wives—happens all the time; you’re not allowed to kill a big boss without the other families’ permission—John Gotti and Sammy whacked Nasabeak [Beak-nose Paul Castellano] and almost started a war."  --Michael "Mikey Scars" DiLeonardo "Ah, Christ on the fucking cross. Right now I'd give my fucking life just to have fucking Buffalo win one."--John Gotti courtesy of Wikimedia Commons  A Brooklyn-based Bonanno crime family associate who served time with Gene Gotti took issue with the headline to this story today and contacted us accordingly. He strongly disagrees with our use of the word "Gentleman." "You're losing your touch. Don't get it twisted: I would never bow down to Gene Gott...
