Waterfront Commission Bans Multiple Individuals Over Mafia Ties, Helps Nab Two Genovese "Brokesters"

Image
After a seven-month hiatus, the Waterfront Commission of New York Harbor was back in business on December 7, when it formally banned multiple individuals from obtaining "gainful" employment on the docks  over alleged ties to Mafia figures. Churchgoer Stephen (Beach) DePiro, reputed Genovese soldier. As per published reports, the rejects had ties to the Lucchese, Colombo, Gambino, Genovese, and DeCavalcante crime families. The potential recruits included an applicant who is affiliated with Stephen (Beach) DePiro, a Genovese soldier who in 2015 was sentenced to three years and five months in prison after pleading guilty to an extortion scheme that collected kickbacks from dock workers. The Commission also blocked an applicant who did not disclose his association with a “member of the Sicilian faction of the Gambino family.” Another applicant was rejected over his not disclosing multiple family ties to the mob: his father is associated with the Luchese family and a grandfather ...

Anthony Comello, Alleged Killer of Gambino Underboss Frank Cali, Mentally Unfit to Stand Trial

Image
He really is bat-shit crazy -- or, at the very least, Anthony Comello, the twenty-something conspiracy theorist who allegedly shot high-ranking Gambino mobster Francesco (Franky Boy) Cali in the back and killed him in front of his Staten Island house in 2019, has been deemed mentally unfit to stand trial. Frank Cali, left; Anthony Comello That was the word from prosecutors and Comello's defense attorneys during a remotely held press conference in State Supreme Court, St. George, where Justice William E. Garnett ordered that Comello be transferred to a state Office of Mental Health facility for further evaluation. Comello is unable to aid in his defense and doesn’t understand the charges against him, the mentally unfit ruling means. [We posted exclusive video at the bottom of this story that purportedly shows Comello -- two months prior to the Cali shooting -- on the verge of fighting with someone on the street....] His next court hearing is scheduled for July 13. Update On New Connection Gambino-Inzerillo Probe

Image
New York wiseguy Thomas Gambino, 47, Sicilian mobster Tomasso Inzerillo, 72, and three other men, all wearing bathing suits, converged on a dinghy in the bay of Palermo, Sicily last summer. Frank Cali, left. They met to discuss the divvying up of profits from the sale of some Caribbean property formerly owned by then-New York-based Gambino underboss Francesco (Franky Boy) Cali, who wouldn't be alive to experience another summer; he was shot and killed in March on Staten Island in an unrelated shooting (that nearly derailed the probe). Of course that dinghy was bugged by Italian investigators working with the FBI. Italian police have since said that the last summer meeting in Palermo of those five gangsters (the Daily Beast report ed the dinghy details) was the first solid lead regarding the criminal connection between the American and Sicilian groups. The discovery kicked the investigation into high gear, with central command for the Italian and US joint operation sc...

FBI, Italian Police Launch Coordinated Raids Against Sicilian Inzerillo, New York Gambino Crime Families

Image
FINAL Sicilian and American wiseguys were busted Wednesday as part of coordinated takedown efforts by Italian police and the FBI, which served 19 arrest warrants in Palermo and in the United States, specifically in Staten Island and Philadelphia. The operation, dubbed "New Connection," was an attempt to disrupt efforts by a Sicilian Mafia faction (specifically, Inzerillo family members in Sicily and their New York allies in the Gambino crime family) to take over the leadership of organized crime in Italy. The Inzerillo and Gambino crime families, which have historical ties, were in the process of rebuilding their powerbase in Sicily. Members of slain Gambino crime boss Frank Cali's family were arrested in the takedown Wednesday, as per officials in Anthony DeStefano's Newsday story . Also arrested were Thomas Gambino, 47, of Staten Island; Salvatore Gambino, the mayor of a village outside Palermo; and Tommaso and Francesco Inzerillo, relatives of Salvator...

The man accused of gunning down Francesco (Frankie Boy) Cali — a powerful ranking member of one of the New York Mafia’s Five Families — was indicted for the murder and ordered held without bail at his 10-minute-long arraignment yesterday. Anthony Comello, 24, faces second-degree murder charges and two counts of second-degree criminal weapon possession in the March 13 Hilltop Terrace rub out. Comello, who is being housed in protective custody, pleaded not guilty in state Supreme Court, St. George, on Staten Island and the case is due back in court on May 9. As per law enforcement sources: Comello blasted the alleged Gambino acting boss on Staten Island last month with a 9mm pistol after crashing into the gangster’s Cadillac Escalade SUV (and knocking off Cali’s license plate) to lure him outside. Once Cali was outside, video surveillance reportedly showed the two men talking and then shaking hands. Comello handed Cali his license plate. Cali, apparently sens...
