In Rare Lecture, US Attorney Details Role in Whitey Bulger Case

He's the lawman who locks up corrupt lawmen, and he's investigated everyone from wiseguys to CIA and FBI agents. John Durham. Connecticut U.S. Attorney John Durham, at the University of St. Joseph in West Hartford on Monday, March 5, 2018, gave a rare, candid speech about his role as a special prosecutor in the Whitey Bulger case. Durham is among this country's most respected prosecutors and he's known for maintaining an extremely low profile. He's prosecuted mobsters, corrupt federal agents, and even a former Connecticut governor. He was empowered by United States attorneys general to investigate some of this nation's dirtiest laundry, including  CIA operations that allegedly involved torture and coverups . He was nominated by President Donald Trump, and was endorsed by Republicans and Democrats alike, to be Connecticut's top federal prosecutor. "Perhaps realizing that his new role calls for higher visibility, (he) delivered a lec...

Stallone to Play Greg "The Grim Reaper" Scarpa

Scarpa in his strong days as arch enforcer and "special agent" for the Feds. Deadline Hollywood is reporting that a film about Colombo capo/lifelong informant Gregory "The Grim Reaper" Scarpa is slated to start filming early next year. Brad Furman will direct and Sylvester Stallone will play the lead role; it will be a Millennium Films production. Stallone could probably play a decent street guy. But can he play a decent Greg Scarpa? The script was written by Nicholas Pileggi, who wrote the book and screenplay for the acclaimed mobster film Goodfellas , which was nominated for an Oscar. Pileggi also was the wordsmith for Casino , which won many kudos from critics but not much else. (I agree with many others: Pileggi was robbed -- he also should have been nominated for Casino, which he adapted from his own book.) Both those films further benefitted from the immortal direction of Martin Scorsese, who is not involved with the Scarpa film, howev...

Will FBI Finally Reveal Mobster's Role in Historic Civil Rights Case?

Image
Greg Scarpa in his prime... The FBI's website says that it will offer "a closer look at the fate of the missing workers and the FBI’s role" in the infamous civil rights case known as "Mississippi Burning." We wonder if they will finally admit the role Greg Scarpa Sr. played in the case. This has already been confirmed by none other than former FBI agent Lin DeVecchio , Scarpa's chief handler, in his ironically titled memoir, "We're Going to Win This Thing."
