  6. Ed, they didn't spend that kind of time around him, remember, Tony was in the infamous "Black Book" That's when the state says you can't go into any casinos in the state, and wiseguys like to eat, gamble, drink, and hang with beautiful women at casinos in Vegas, and Tony had so much heat on him, and being barred from the casinos, meant "stay away from Tony" as much as possible, hanging with him got you in more trouble than one needed.

  8. I guess. He talked but I don't know if he implicated anyone. Just killed a lot of people and tried to pull a Ted Bundy to get out of prison. Bundy tried to postpone his own execution by revealing the names of more of his victims as well as the locations of never-found bodies.

  14. I first heard of Konigsberg in the early 1970s when another Life magazine article claimed he had "taken over" the Federal Medical Center (prison) in Springfield, Missouri where he was then incarcerated.

Years later I happened to run into a retired supervisor of guards from the prison who told me the things mentioned in the article were largely true and that Konigsberg had intimidated all of the inmates and most of the staff when he was there. He said, for example, that at chow time if Konigsberg saw something on an inmate's tray that he liked he would just reach over and take it. Nobody messed with him.

The former guard told me he had a personal run-in with Konigsberg, which was also mentioned in the article, where Konigsberg hired a local photographer to drive by the guard's house and take pictures of his wife and kids which he then used as threats. There were even a few cryptic letters to the editor of a Springfield newspaper about the tension in the prison and Kayo's attempts to extort favors from the guards.

I was surprised to learn the man was still around at this late date. I guess the medical services rendered by the feds must be pretty good.
