Mole in Bonanno Crime Family's Midst?

Bobby Lino, left, Russell Mauro, on right.

Our source was inducted into Cosa Nostra's Bonanno Family in 1975, when the books were opened for the first time in a long time. He started out under Nicholas Marangello, aka "Little Nicky Glasses," underboss at the time, and became acting capo for Mickey Zaffarano.

"In that regime was all the guys that no one wanted," he said. "Anthony Bruno Indelicato, Anthony Rabito, Tony Mirra, Sonny Black Napolitano, James Episcopia, Louis "Louie HaHa" Attanasio and Vinny Asaro.

"That crew broke up when Lilo got hit. They took down all Lilo's guys."

Our source, a pretty sharp character in our view, made it through the ranks earning a lot of money in construction and selling heroin. Lets call him "Blue Eyes."

In the late 1990s, he went to jail, did his time and now resides in what he calls the " the warm state."

When he read our admittedly lame John Palazzolo story, he called us.

Of Russell Mauro, he said, "They robbed him and killed him and we couldn't attend the wake."

Whenever guys were ordered not to attend a funeral, when guys were shelved -- all such actions were said to be "forte familia," meaning for the strength of the family, our source told us.

"It was done for the family -- forte familia."

"Now he is a top-ranking member of the Bonanno family. How in the world did anyone put him in a position to open his big mouth to the wrong ears about everything, politics in the family, meeting with guys that are on parole, knowing who is who?"

But as for the main story, "How stupid can these new guys be!" He may have left the streets some time ago, but he certainly sounds like a guy from New York.

"There's a mole deep in this in the family for years. I can't believe that every time there's a meeting or a walk-and-talk, the FBI is always there. And listens."

The guy he thinks is a mole has been feeding the FBI agents information for years, he said.

After the "Sonny Red trifecta," his name for the storied three-capo whacking of Sonny Red, Phil Lucky and Big Trin in the basement of a Gambino-owned club, the "mole" -- who was part of the conspiracy, our guy said -- was put in position to gather lots of information.

"He was never charged" for the three capo murders, our source said of him. Also "he had something to do with the disappearance of the son-in-law of Paul Castellano."

"Now let's talk about the Donnie Brasco case. He was in the middle of that also, circa 1981. He was caught on a federal wiretap talking about Joe Massino being his captain, and loaning money and never received a subpoena."

Russell Mauro. A lot of guys didn't think he had
to go when he did.

"He always borrowed money from members and never paid anyone in the family back but Joe Massino.and Big Louie. He was and is a broken down suitcase. He talked about everyone in the family. Dial any seven numbers and he would pick up the phone."

"He started a lot of trouble with in the family. He told the boss, Joe Massino, lies about everyone he didn't like and owed money to in the family."

Then he was under a captain close to Joe Massino, Johnny Palazzolo, and was in a backup position when Russell Mauro got killed. Still nothing happened to him.

"Now he is a top-ranking member of the Bonanno family. How in the world did anyone put him in a position to open his big mouth to the wrong ears about everything, politics in the family, meeting with guys that are on parole, knowing who is who?"

"If he was a fish he'd be on a wall because his mouth is always open and talking shit about everyone, even his good friends."

He added: "It's odd that every time someone meets him they get violated and or pinched.

"He's happy he's out and alive. But them young Long Island kids in gangland are right -- they don't need this thing resurfacing and the whole world knowing their business...."

The mobster-mole is a "total fraud and yellow dog. There is more nerve in a veal cutlet and his manhood is questionable. We'll get to that later ..."

  1. Maybe a little OT, but how was this individual connected, if at all, to the Sicilians brought in by Galante?

  2. sounds like rabito...

  3. Sounds like Anthony Rabito...

  5. I posted this fast -- and have been tinkering with it all morning. It's now finished....12:34 pm....

  6. Could be----I find it interesting that the source compares this person to a fish---Rabito is known as "Mr. Fish" in addition to "Fat Anthony".

    ReplyDelete
  7. Not sure who is the today's potential Moe. However as far as your source is concerned which I know you won't reviele either. I have 2 people in mind. One never made it above soldier but think he switched the year he was made to throw us off. The other was a captain for most of his career in the life, another potential throw off. I say this because only 2 especially comes to mind based on the picture above. Secrets safe with me :) Interested to see how this plays out.

  8. At first I thought he was talking about Tony Rabito but when he mentioned the 3 capos hit and Brasco I thought it could be Nicky "Nicky Mouth" Santoro.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Nicky santora and his crew are all broke. He owed everyone money. Even when everyone kicked in for his daughters family he pocketed the money.

    ReplyDelete
  10. The part about him not paying anyone back but Massino has to be Graziano, the guy that got shelved cause his daughters are the star n producer of Mob Wives, I read the exact thing somewhere n maybe even on here where he would never pay back anyone but Massino, my guess is him.

    ReplyDelete
  11. How do these guys get made. Anthony Rabito 'Graziano'Nicky the mouth Santoro if there all dead beats and bring nothing to the table going by what i read here pretty sad. If its for shooting people anyone can do that. May be they have relatives who stood for them just wondering here? Philly

    ReplyDelete
  12. Nicky is a talker. His conversations with various people within the Bonanno family, members of the Genovese family were caught on tape. He fingered people on tape. The Manhattan DA's Office is using this now to get his cooperation. If your "mole" isn't Nicky, he's still part of the reason they're getting info...he's still talking to DA Vance. Anthony Rabito is cousin to a Genovese mobster that happens to also be related to Nicky down the line on their mothers' side. Nicky fingered that guy (Genovese) for 2 murders on tape and the DA's office got it. When Nicky was recorded on jail house phone ordering a hit on somebody down in Florida a couple of years ago, during this last stint, the DA's office took that off the table. Additionally, Anthony Rabito's cell phone, along with many members of the NY crime families, including Nicky's, was being monitored after Nicky's cousin's phone was given to FBI both by somebody very close to Nicky.

  13. I also thought Nicky Mouth but this article states that the mole is free and Santora is in jail now looking at some heavy time and wouldn't have been able to jam up John Palazzolo. It really doesn't matter though. Aside from the years Massino was boss this is dysfunctional family that is just going to keep fighting with each other in between whatever jail time they are serving.

  14. Oh yep, you're right...just noticed that. Thanks.

  15. No connection. You probably thinking of pic. I wanted to find a pic of Lilo not seen every day so I ran that pick of him in that hoodie.... Learning a lot of new stuff about Lilo and Sonny Red..... they called him Sony Red Devil..... a character.....

    ReplyDelete
  16. I seem to be more inthralled with who the "Source' is as I have been trying to put the pieces together The picture of on top of Bobby L Sr and RM, has had several people come to mind.

However even if I were to put together a good hypothesis on who the Mole is, I certainly would not be posting it on here. (No Offense Ed) It's just that people on here are coming up with their own conclusions and making them known.

Great way to get an innocent guy Jammed Up. Not that any are pillars of society. All it would take is for the wrong person to read the wrong post. Then they start thinking and before you know it someone is not around anymore.

I guess the point I am trying to make is, you better be dame sure on whoever you lay this on, is in fact the mole. Nothing wrong with speculating, but remember. Silence, it's golden :) All the best Ed :)

  17. Again Ed...Great Journalists do NOT back down from a story because of threats. By the way, that "cell phone" incident I mentioned below....Anthony Rabito's number on there...MANY Bonanno members, Colombo, Genovese etc. The OWNER of the cell phone that fell into the wrong hands...or should I say the RIGHT hands, used to call John "Sonny" Franzese, "Uncle".

The following excerpt was taken from documents written by somebody close to Nicky Santora. I can't say from where...sorry.

"I used to wonder why wiseguys would talk so freely when they were on their cell phones; even after it was known that various federal agencies could remotely install software on to any handset, without the owner’s knowledge. That way, they were able to activate the microphone without the owner having to make a call, which made it easy for the FBI or Justice Department to have remote access. In a nutshell, it was a possibility that a lot of cell phones belonging to wiseguys would be transmitting room audio…all the time! The same technique was used in the
prosecution of one of the most powerful members of the Genovese crime family, John Ardito and his attorney, Peter Peluso after the FBI had access to their cell phones and were able to listen in on nearby conversations."

  18. I can certainly appreciate the danger factor, which is why we didn't come right out and name the guy.... But it's not like we are telling the mob anything they don't already know.... It's more like telling my readers what one guy who probably lived more of his life in the mob v. outside it has to say about the guys on the street. In other words if he can figure this out -- I am sure the guys on the street have figured this out.... Writing about the mob, period, is difficult on a number of levels. I am working on additional stories with this source too -- not on this topic. He has incredible insight into the various regimes and has instant name recognition. He told me that when Sonny Red popped out of the ground, the guys read...

    ReplyDelete
  19. Now I hear from three sources that someone's gonna be indicted on old murder charges....

    ReplyDelete
  20. that guy rabito did like 8 years after donnie brasco and did like 3 years for gambling 7 yrs ago. doubt hes a informant. the source must be 70 years or older maybe mickey cardello . down in texas why wouldnt he call the bosses back home and tell them of his suspicion.

  21. a known rat in the family and high ranking at that, and no one does nothing? I dont understand

    ReplyDelete
  22. The Bonanno family is a hot mess, and they need to clean their mess up real soon. Rats, infighting, back stabbing, and double dealing are what's happened to the Bonanno's. Maybe a mass breakup of the family where the four other families each get some of the Bonanno guys is in order under the circumstances.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I agree DC4 rumors and accusations can get people killed

    ReplyDelete
  24. By the way, I just re-read my comment from earlier and forgot to mention, re: the 2 murders I spoke of in my comment below, Anthony Rabito knows about them as well. Like I said, it was his cousin that participated in both.

TO ANTHONY RABITO, IF YOU'RE READING: TELL ANTHONY MACK HELLO FROM "CALL OF DUTY" & TO GO "F" HIMSELF & U AS WELL. HE HAS MY ADDRESS & SO DOES VINNY F. (QUACK-QUACK??) & NICKY IN THE EVENT U HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY - U FAT *UCK LOWLIFE!

    ReplyDelete
  25. "infighting" "back stabbing" "double dealing"
Welcome to the cosa nostra. It's been like that forever.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Any more news on the pending indictment ?

    ReplyDelete
  27. It's a nobody -- no one active on the street now. Insignificant -- glad you asked....

    ReplyDelete
  28. Ed, you really are good. I am driving myself crazy trying to figure out the source, the mole is becoming more obvious. Although I had a question. Was the mole involved in Paul's daughters husband Amato or the boyfriend Borrellie? Just confirming. Paul had them both disappear and he used the Gemini crew to lose the husband…from what I've read...

    ReplyDelete
  29. I don't think that will ever happen. Back in the early 90's that was suggested for the Columbo's due to the war. The idea was quickly shot down. People barely trust people in their own family. They will never trust people from another family. Especially with whats left of this Circus.

  30. Elmo, and T.G., are the only wise guys, close to Joey Massino never got charged with Murders, the Bonannos neen clowns for ever and a day, they straightened out the guy Big Frank, the whole Staten Island knows he ratted on two guys who gave him a beaten back in the late 90's he was screaming "help call the Police".
Sal Vitale was a Cop Massino straightend him out, Spero was a Punk, who had the low lives and f the lowest creatures around him.
The only reason they killed Paul's son in law to show each other how tough they were.
Cosa Nostra, is full of Rats, remember Lucky Luciano who formed it was a rat from when he was a teen, the the Jew Lansky, their Torah says they must rat.

    ReplyDelete
  31. About luciano, how was he a rat? Are you referring to the time he led agents to drugs he had hidden? So in essence he rattd on himself? Or do you mean how he collaborated with the Feds during the war? By either way he was pretty screwed....he didn't implicate anyone....he used the govt as a tool.

  32. While I am positive two 120 old gangsters are on here, I mean thats if you can get them off instagram, facebook and snap chat for reallzzzz, I am sure Rabito and Santora spend all day posting selfies! i believe Rabitos twitter handle is #OldSchoolGangsters or #IamACapoREGIME ...but wouldnt it be far easier to just tell Tommy "Garbage" to tell them what you say above? or meet up with them at Bayside diner and tell them face to face?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Go tell them to their faces instead of on a website...

    ReplyDelete
  34. Exactly Southphilly who the fuck calls out gangsters on a website lol the ones I know would never be on a site like this or any other...no offense Ed

    ReplyDelete
  35. I agree! Although I have my own suspicions, But this could be a very dangerous guessing game when you're not absolutely positively sure. I think in this case, I'll keep my thoughts to myself.

    ReplyDelete
  36. In my opinion, Elmo is as good as gold.

    ReplyDelete
  37. That statement about Nicky and the movie casino is true, I heard it myself. You're right on target Rico.

    ReplyDelete
  38. And the plot thickens! You may be on to something DC, But again, I'll keep my thoughts to myself on this one.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Actually, I told Santora on more than one occasion, TO HIS FACE to go "F" himself. You can write him and ask him or send copies of these comments if you like. As for Tommy? Go ahead, Pal...give him a call.

    ReplyDelete
  40. That comment is absolutely true and on target.. Touche'

    ReplyDelete
  41. If this is the DC I'm thinking of, do you wish you stayed with the Genovese? If there's a family to be with it seems like it's them

    ReplyDelete
  42. Wrong DC …Ed will vouch for that.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Thanks for the clarification, I did wonder about the "4"

    ReplyDelete
  44. Though I wish you WERE him lol....this is the 3rd time I've posted that question now without getting an answer. I'm really interested to know because from an outside perspective, it seems being a lower ranking Genovese might be better than a high ranking Bonanno. Maybe it's just not that simple.

    ReplyDelete
  45. What's up my Hearsay? How u doing? Yes I agree it's a serious accusation and a dangerous guessing game

    ReplyDelete
  46. Actually the Torah says a Jew cannot inform on another Jew but omertà is a forgotten concept in all cultures except for the few stand up ppl out there and they are white, black, Hispanic and Asian. Anyone who did a bid can confirm that. But to sum it up 99% of ppl fold and sell their soul for that 5k

    ReplyDelete
  47. It's one of the Lino men. I thought Frank Lino but he was inducted in 1977 I think..maybe wrong. Frank Coppa, same year? Their case info isn't available on court electronic records due to WitSec for both of them. I'm certain it's one of them...could be wrong...I give up Ed. Darn you!

  48. I want to know more about Salvatore toto catalano

    ReplyDelete
  49. What's up brother? You hit the nail on the head, I like the way you think, you're a sharp dude.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Lmao, Ain't that the truth, Good post.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Salvatore "Toto" Catalano did his prison time and is now living in Sicily. His family, including his mother, maintained his bakery in Middle Village Queens up until the time he came out of prison. I don't know if his entire family went back to Sicily with him, but after he got out they sold the bakery to another Sicilian family. This family has no ties to cosa nostra. They are very fine people. They also own another bakery in Astoria.

  54. Wasn't Santora's character was played by Bruno Kirby in "DONNY BRASCO?" If so, why did they kill him off, when the real Santora is still alive?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Either his daughters f*cked him real good or did him a favor!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Regime that nobody wanted? Sonny black? tony mirra? Whack Whack? sounds like a pretty good crew to me. Except for the fact mirra and bruno were impossible to control.
