BigTrial's Anastasia Writes Book that Demystifies "Gotti Legend"

John "Junior" Gotti
Amazon.com: From the New York Times bestselling author of Blood and Honor and The Last Gangster—“one of the most respected crime reporters in the country” (60 Minutes)—comes the sure to be headline-making inside story of the Gotti and Gambino families, told from the unique viewpoint of notorious mob hit-man John Alite, a close associate of Junior Gotti who later testified against him.

In Gotti's Rules: The Story of John Alite, Junior Gotti, and the Demise of the American Mafia, George Anastasia, a prize-winning reporter who spent over thirty years covering crime, offers a shocking and very rare glimpse into the Gotti family, witnessed up-close from former family insider John Alite, John Gotti Jr.’s longtime friend and protector. Until now, no one has given up the kind of personal details about the Gottis—including the legendary “Gotti Rules” of leadership—that Anastasia exposes here.

Drawing on extensive FBI files and other documentation, his own knowledge, and exclusive interviews with insiders and experts, including mob-enforcer-turned-government-witness Alite, Anastasia pokes holes in the Gotti legend, demystifying this notorious family and its lucrative and often deadly machinations.

John Alite
Anastasia offers never-before-heard information about the murders, drug dealing, and extortion that propelled John J. Gotti to the top of the Gambino crime family and the treachery and deceit that allowed John A. “Junior” Gotti to follow in his father’s footsteps.

Told from street level and through the eyes of a wiseguy who saw it all firsthand, the result is a riveting look at a family whose hubris, violence, passion, and greed fueled a bloody rise and devastating fall that is still reverberating through the American underworld today.

This title will be released on January 27, 2015.

  2. Nice, I've been hungry for a new wiseguy book after finishing Al D'Arco. And George Anastasia is one if the best authors out there for it.

  3. I think that it is terrible what John Alite is doing. John A. Gotti went through quite a number of trials along with being imprisoned on several occassions, including being held in solitary confinement for a variety of reasons, one being for his own protection, which was really to cause him more aggravation. There is not a whole lot one could really say negative about John J. Gotti other than he was not a good Boss. Here is a man who came from absolutely nothing, the family grew up in poverty, to have an indivual such as Mr. Alite, who was really a nobody, say negative things about a family, whether you like them or not, when the chips are down keep their mouths shut, is very difficult for me to understand the public's interest. Mr. Anastasia, who I have a tremendous amount of respect for as a journalist, has authored a prior book as well, The Last American Gangster, who really was a nobody as well as Mr. Alite, albeit very well done, appears to be using individuals for topics of a book people should not even think twice about. Mr. Anastasia takes nobody's and turns them into larger than life charcaters. Quite impressive, but it really is a shame as in both books, individuals are currently in prison or have died in prison which for nothing else one must respect, if not their crimes itself, and for lack of a better way to put it pieces of garbage like Mr. Alite, and quite frankly Mr. Leonetti as well, are able to achieve credibility.

  4. Alite is done; he was completely ineffective. As my FBI friend tells me, informants like Alite have to tell the truth on the stand or they are fed to the sharks. Testimony is pretty solid. I can't wait to read this book for reasons listed in other comments....

  5. Mr. Scarpo, in Mr. Anastasia's book about John Alite, do you think it will discuss as one of the things given to Mr. Alite in exchange for his testimony the Federal Government purchasing a new set of teeth for Mr. Alite.

  7. There are two important things to note in the description of this so-called tell-all book and should stand out to any street-wise person reading this description. First of all it says Alite will give his story from "street level." That means he was not privy to the top secret sit downs and the high-end rackets that the mob hires college educated Jews to overlook and whatever he may have found out was second hand. Second of all, he may be considered a "wiseguy," but he was never a made guy. So, when the real big boys came out to play, he was told to take out the trash. The Gotti name is just as famous as the Capone name. Any book making such claims will probably sell plenty of copies. I think the book to look out for will be the one by Lewis Kasman, Gotti's so-called adopted son. Kasman was involved in many of Gotti's high end business transactions and spent more time with Gotti and his family than Gravano.

  9. A Guy that knows better!Aug 1, 2014, 6:06:00 PM

Alite was a street level guy, doing muscle and lackey work for Jr, and Jr only, and no way would a made guy ever tell a guy that's not made any "Family business or secret's" Anything Alite would have to say is rumor, conjecture, or out right made up by Alite. Anyone that knows Alite knows he's a fabricator of stories, known to most that know him as a "Lying Rat Bastard" I know.

  14. Hard to discredit someone who has actual court documentation from a so called boss who threw everyone under the bus but I guess we'll see what's real in a few months when the book does come out.

  15. Old School,
Court documentation? Court documentation is as credible as the Enquirer.

    ReplyDelete
  16. So what your saying is legal 302 court statements given from a defendant or someone who cooperated can be altered, changed and is not credible? That sounds a little crazy if you ask me.

  17. I mistook your mention of "court documentation" to mean FBI and US attorneys indictments, reports, data, etc., which can be fluff. If it's his own statement concerning his own crimes, I agree with you. But a man at his level could only be privy to highly sensitive information second hand being that he was not made, just an associate. Sometimes made guys say things to see the reaction of associates or throw out half truths to keep them in the dark, but then again Gotti Sr. had a big mouth.

  22. Yeah but wasn't his nickname "Retard?" Or was that just what Johnny Boy called him? Interesting thing is, Gotti was pretty close to being a boss of bosses when he was at his peak. His word was law in the Mafia. I've heard a lot of stories about John, in many different contexts. Gotti was the reason Spero had to end the violence on Bath Ave. Tuzzio was killed because of John, and he defied all of law enforcement and would not give Gus Farace up..... Orena and Massino were in his pocket. He's knocked now but when he spoke a lot of people listened because Gotti wouldn't hesitate to to murder anyone. The Chin and Gaspipe, they had to use a sneaky bomb ploy and backdoored him by taking out a couple of his guys. Why didn't they just go after him? Cause Gotti would've brought on a full scale war in the streets. He'd have turned NYC into Palermo in 1992. He didn't give a fuck.

Its easy to point the finger at somebidy when there gone yes John made mistakes
but to blame him for the condition the family is in now is just wrong who ever was in charge this was gonna be the end result Big paul was in trouble before he got killed and from what people have been whispering for yrs wasnt quite the stand up guy Gotti was but will never know for sure. But when Johnny Boy was running things u kept ur thoughts to ur self or u got a visit and got ur mind right no one dared pointed a finger dont start now that he.s gone. Philly

  24. Honestly, I can't say -- but face it, not a lot of good books out these days that focus on the more current events of the Five Families. Capeci has pretty much built a solid foundation of detail regarding Gotti Senior, and I am guessing, but I wouldn't be surprised if Capeci got an offer from Alite to do a book -- and pointed the ex-gangster to his pal in Philly, Anastasia. Jerry is probably ready to retire. Maybe not but I bet he's frigging bored (and rich!) and has done the Gotti thing to death....

Face it: Junior pulled a lot of shit -- whacked a lot of people, robbed and scammed for years and years -- and HE GOT AWAY WITH IT... I, for one, would love the dirt on him -- how he tried to set up and whack some of his old man's pals, like Joe Watts, who outfoxed Junior. And I'd love to know more about Alite's story. He was close to Ronnie One-Arm, as well as Gotti Junior; this book will advance our knowledge of the Gambinos, at the very least, and we'll hear a little more gossip about Victoria..... The question I have is: Will Junior ever write a book? And what's the deal with the Gotti movie?
